SUMMARY


In february there was a reduction in rainfall over Northeast and Southern Brazil. Over Northern Brazil, it is noticeable the defict of rainfall in Para, since last year. Above average precipitation was observed over Southeastern, causing floods and loss of human lives and building damages. The amount of precipitation was responsible also by the increase of the reservoir levels in Minas Gerais.

Four frontal systems affected the country and two SACZ episodes were observed during this month. The position and occurrence of upper level cyclonic vortex were responsible by the reduction of rainfall over Northeast in the last 15 days of february.

The electricity energy situation was improved in the whole country, however the hydrological conditions of Sobradinho are still over attention. The discharge deviation of the Southeastern Region rivers were positive in large parts of Minas Gerais and northern São Paulo State.

The number of hot spots increased in january and february, compared to the same months of last year.
