SUMMARY

During the month of April dry conditions prevailed in central-east parts of Brazil. Six frontal systems affected Brazil during the month, the first one being the last of the previous month. Only two of the six have affected the Southeast region, and those two have reached the city of Caravelas in Bahia. In Roraima the monthly rainfall was below normal, in spite of an increase from the previous month.

There was a cooling of the Pacific Sea Surface Temperature anomalies in the eastern regions near the Peru coast and a slight warming in the western seas in relation to the previous month.

The bush and forest fires as seen from the hot spot density in the infrared imagery have diminished considerably, in all regions of Brazil, in relation to the previous month. The beginning of the rainy season in northernmost regions of Brazil marks the end of the bush fires in that region.
