The highest amounts of rainfall in Brazil during this month were recorded in the western sector of the North Region and in the southern sector of the South Region. The rainy season of the eastern strip of the Northeast Region is in its final stage.
Seven frontal systems advanced over the South and Southeast Regions and affected the coastal areas of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In general, the temperatures remained above normal in most of Brazil.
The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the tropical Pacific Ocean continued to show the type evolution characteristic of a warm episode (El Niño). Highest positive deviations of SST were noticed near the International Date Line.
The number of hot spots (bush fires) in Brazil in this month have risen by 35% compared to the same month last year. The highest density of hot spots were observed in the eastern sector of Pará state.
