The first beginning days of October were highlighted by heavy rain (over 50 mm a day) and floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo, causing human and material losses. The rainfall increased in Southeastern and Central Brazil. In Northern Brazil, the rainfall was well distributed in western portion and above average in the northern portion. In Northeastern Brazil, the rainfall happened mainly over the eastern portion.
Six cold fronts influenced the rainfall pattern over the country. Two of the six reached southern Bahia. The cold air masses were weak and caused temperatures below 10oC in Southern Brazil. In Southern and Southeastern Brazil the minimum temperatures were between 10 and 20oC.
Over Pacific Ocean, the oceanic and atmospheric patterns avidence neutral conditions concerning on ENSO episode during October.
The storage of some reservoirs in Southeastern Brazil increased this month. At Ilha Solteira reservoir the situation was better compared to the previous month. In southern and southwestern São Paulo, next to Parana, positive anomalies were observed in Registro, Xavantes and Paraná stations.
