SUMMARY

In December there was intense rainfall and strong winds over Southern Brazil associated with frontal systems and MCC (Mesoscale Convective Complex). Above normal precipitation was registered over this region, while bellow normal rainfall was observed in other areas of Brazil.

Positive SST anomalies occurred in the West Pacific, and negative anomalies in large areas of the South Atlantic Ocean. The Bolivia High was slightly displaced southward, and the high level cyclonic vortices affected the Northeast Region.

Although there was a recover in some of the hydrological stations discharges, compared to the previous month, most of them presented values bellow average, except those located in the Southern Region.

In this month a new section is being implemented to show relevant aspects of the Antartica meteorology and climatology, based on data from the Brazilian Station Comandante Ferraz.
